NORBROOK ANNOUNCES MAJOR INVESTMENT

Published on: Tuesday 30 October 2007

Norbrook Laboratories Newry was the venue that held one of Norbrook's most significant announcements in the past 10 years. On the 30th October 2007, Norbrook's Executive Chairman, Lord Ballyedmond O.B.E., along with Economy Minister, Nigel Dodds confirmed an investment of £83 million. The investment will increase the excellence of the capabilities and facilities within Norbrook's key Research and Development department, while creating an extra 293 jobs.

During the announcement, Economy Minister Nigel Dodds praised Norbrook stating,

"It is a great achievement that this major investment, which could have gone outside Northern Ireland, has been secured by Invest N.I. Norbrook is one of our most successful indigenous companies and has an impressive record of growth."

Norbrook is already a major employer within Newry, employing 880 personnel within the city. The growth in employment will in turn deliver significant benefits for the economy as a whole as stated by Nigel Dodds.

Norbrook Laboratories is currently one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies and is a signature brand in the veterinary pharmaceutical market; however, the new investment will ensure continuous growth in this sector, producing more products and active pharmaceutical ingredients, ensuring total control within the industry. As Chairman of the company Lord Ballyedmond stated,

"...we are now keen to develop a bigger presence in the pet market. Our goal is to establish a centre of Research and Development excellence and to continue to develop patented products that will out perform our competitors."
